Spoken Word Artist: Jonathan Davis

Jonathan is a powerful performer whose thought-provoking material is innovative and compelling, drawing his audience in with his unique take on diverse topics. He interweaves scripture to deliver a dynamic message to minister to the audience. During his performance he may touch on topics related to the Gospel, social commentary, love and relationships. He has the ability to connect with a diverse group of audiences with his every changing flow and delivery.

He has performed at over 50 venues across the country, from Philadelphia to California. He has ministered at various churches in the Philadelphia area including Destiny Worship Center, Macedonia Baptist Church, and McKinley Memorial Baptist Church. In the Los Angeles area, he has ministered at churches including Friendship Pasadena, CityLight LA, Center Connection Church, Hillside Tabernacle Church, and First AME Church of Pasadena. 

A notable performance was at the Air Lounge in Oakland, CA; and he was selected to perform at the Philadelphia Clef Club, opening for Shanelle Gabriel at an event hosted by Black Ice; both HBO Def Poetry Jam artists. Jonathan has headlined in the Philadelphia area at venues such as Bourbon Blue, along with August Moon and spoken at Warm Daddy’s, World Live Cafe and the African American Museum of Art. Jonathan was also commissioned to write a poem for boxing champion Bernard Hopkins that was featured during the champ’s entrance at his 2012 HBO featured fight.

Jonathan’s appreciation for writing grew out of his teenage pastime of writing songs and hip hop rhymes. His passion for writing quickly evolved into a passion for the spoken word. His enjoyment of performance is a natural by-product of his musical background, having played in the marching band and the indoor drumline percussion ensemble at Wissahickon High School.

Jonathan believes that his purpose is to be an instrument of God and he is guided by his Christian values as he fulfills God’s purpose in his life. Because of his diversity, Jonathan has the ability to tailor his performance to both a secular and Christian audience. His ability to connect with audiences is one of his gifts. His spiritual gifts are the gift of evangelism and the gift of exhortation.He is available to perform at spoken word venues, special events including weddings, birthdays and church functions. He is also available for commissioned works.Jonathan currently resides in the Los Angeles, CA area with his wife Jolene. He is in the Philadelphia area often. He enjoys performing, writing and reciting poetry, but most importantly ministering through spoken word brings him great fulfillment. So much in fact, that he started a spoken word ministry called Poets on Fire to collaborate with other poets to share the Gospel through their artform. Other pastimes include bodybuilding and serving in his local church.
